Since 2019, ORION has been working closely and intensively with the Romanian Patriarchate (Patriarhia Română) on an extraordinary lighting project for the Romanian National Cathedral in Bucharest. The Romanian Patriarchate (Patriarhia Română, Biserica Ortodoxă Română - BOR) is the autocephalous (independent) Romanian Orthodox Church and one of the largest Orthodox churches in the world with millions of members, mainly in Romania and the Republic of Moldova.
As part of this cooperation, ORION developed five monumental large-scale luminaires between 2019 and 2024, with the final order placed in 2024. After a year of production, the first chandeliers were delivered.
The largest chandelier is impressive with a diameter of around 8.5 meters, a weight of around 1.8 tons, and an elegant bronze surface. The imposing appearance is complemented by elaborately crafted cast brass decorative elements and exclusive white onyx details.
Technologically, the lights are of the highest standard: they can be controlled via a digital DALI system, offering maximum flexibility in lighting.
The entire project is an example of the highest level of craftsmanship and quality – 100% made in Austria.
